Introduction
This booklet is intended for all those in the Hebrew University who work with radioactive material. It is the result of many years of effort by Dr. Ezra Levinger and Dr. Yitzchak Ashkenazi, who were Radiation Safety Officers (each one on his respective campus). They invested praiseworthy diligence and thoroughness in analyzing potential failures and preparing tools and guidelines to prevent safety or hygiene injury to students, workers and researchers.
In this booklet we have included University Guidelines 09-006 "Working with Sources of Ionizing Radiation" and supplementary professional and administrative information, which is meant to enable workers and researchers to understand the hazards more easily and to clarify the organizational path selected to decrease these risks as much as possible.
When starting to work, a radiation worker must receive training on the topic of radiation safety from the Campus Radiation Safety Officer. This booklet is an additional step in the process of imparting safety information and creating an appropriate safety setting.
In order to ensure that this process is effective, every worker who receives this booklet must sign, when he has finished reading and studying it, the form in Appendix B of the University Guidelines, "Commitment to Obey Safety Rules When Working with Radiation Sources". The signed form will be stored in the worker's personal file.
